Daniel Mitov Ready for Foreign Minister Role Amid Geopolitical Test in Bulgaria
Daniel Mitov, Deputy Chairman of GERB, has expressed his readiness to assume the position of Acting Foreign Minister
The Mayor of Sofia, informal leader of the GERB party and top runner to become Bulgaria's next Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, celebrated Saturday his 50th birthday.
Bulgaria's daily "24 Chassa" (24 Hours) reports Sunday that the celebration had been a quite event at Borisov's house in the Sofia "Bankya" suburb, due to the fact that the Mayor recently underwent leg surgery over a football game injury.
The guests included Sofia's Deputy Mayors, fellow members of the Citizens for European Development of Bulgaria (GERB) party, Sofia's Chief Architect, Petar Dikov.
The birthday celebration is reported to have been held more like a work session than a party with Deputy Mayors and GERB leaders giving account of their deeds during Borisov's sick leave.
Dikov gave Borisov as a gift the building permit to start the plumbing system of Sofia's "Moderno Predgradie" district with the inscription: "For the 50th anniversary of Mayor Borisov, who managed to solve a 5-year-old problem for 50 thousand Sofia residents."
Other gifts from the City Hall representatives included the agreement with the European Investment Bank to grant a loan for building three two-level intersections in Sofia and a rocking chair.
Three representatives of Sofia's Regional Deputy Mayors offered their boss a top-of-the-line "Premier" fountain pen made by the DuPont Company.
Members of the GERB youth organization gave Borisov a useful gift - a cigar lighter while the Chair of GERB, Tsvetan Tsvetanov, presented his boss with a statue of a lion, accompanied by the words: "This is the master."
