The significant decline of the Romania Lei (RON) has helped Bulgaria to achieve positive trade balance with its neighbor, and EU co-member.

The data has been presented Tuesday by the National Statistical Institute.

Bulgaria has become a net exported to Romania, as the turnover for the first quarter of 2009 is BGN 842 M.

For the same period of 2008 Bulgaria recorded a negative balance of BGN 216 M, while this year the balance is positive - BGN 83 M.

All this shows that the deflation of the Romanian currency has helped us to increase Bulgaria's competitive power.

The RON has lost 17,6% of its price since June 2008 compared to the BGN.
