The US President, Barack Obama, and his French counterpart, Nicolas Sarkozy, might have to have cold meals for their lunch planned for Saturday noon in the Franch city of Caen.

Trade unions representing electricity providers EDF and GDF have threatened to cut the power supply in the downtown of Caen where the two heads of state are supposed to meet, Quest France has reported.

The utility workers are the ninth week of demanding higher wages, and have already carried out numerous power cuts around France over the past weeks. On May 14, electricians and gas workers cut Caen's main power line, blacking out some 26,000 households for one hour
.
Obama and Sarkozy are meeting Saturday as part of the celebrations commemorating the 65th anniversary of D-Day, the Allied invasion of Normandy in World War II. Obama and Sarkozy will be joined by British Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Prime Minister Stephen Harper of Canada for the D-Day ceremonies.
