The regional electoral commission in the Bulgarian Black Sea city of Varna has allowed Vesselin and Hristo Danovi to run for Parliament seats.

Vesselin and Hristo Danovi, a father and a son, who have been almost a year in custody on allegations of racketeering, enticement into prostitution and money laundering, are on the ticket of a party called Bulgarian Patriots Union.

On Tuesday, the Varna Electoral Commission accepted the registration of the party in question to run in the 2009 Parliamentary Elections, effectively making the father and son Danevi MP candidates

Vesselin Danov, 55, was arrested in September last year, followed by his son a few days later. Both were city councilors in Varna.

The news comes after last week the notorious businessman from the town of Dupnitsa, Plamen Galev, who has been in custody on organized crime charges, said he would run for an MP.

Should any of these individuals get elected, they would have a MP immunity from being prosecuted.
