Macquarie Group, Australia's biggest investment bank, is bidding for an AIG fund unit, whose subsidiary is majority owner of Bulgaria's former state-owned telecom BTC, Bloomberg agency reported, citing insiders.

Macquarie is among several firms pursuing AIG Investments, a New York-based fund manager put up for sale in January, said people with knowledge of the matter.

AIG and Macquarie spokesmen have refused to comment the report. No statement has been made so far by the representatives of AIG Investments in the Bulgarian Telecommunications Company BTC.

AIG expects to sell the unit for as much as USD 500 M with about USD 100 B under management, the insiders said.
