An avalanche has killed six people near the ski resort of Soelden in the Austrian Alps, BBC reports citing emergency rescue officials.

The avalanche was spotted by skiers Saturday but rescuers were unable to reach the scene because of the inclement weather.

The second attempt by helicopter Sunday morning recovered six bodies, according to the Austrian news agency, APA.

BBC further reports, citing Austrian police that all the victims were believed to be from a Czech tourist group.

A seventh member of the group decided not to join the party and escaped their fate.
