A Russian Il-76 military transport plane has crashed in the Ivanovo region, northeast of Moscow
The gunman who hijacked a passenger plane in the Jamaican resort of Montego Bay has surrendered, BBC reports Monday.
The news agency is citing officials from the Jamaican Information Ministry.
According to them, the six crew members held hostage by the man were released unharmed.
Earlier reports listed the number of hostage at five.
The man reportedly breached security systems using fake ID and boarded the plane as it was preparing to take off at around 22:30 local time. BBC informs that he checked in for the flight then forced his way past checkpoints and went on board evidently holding a firearm.
The man allegedly robbed passengers, and there is unconfirmed information about a shot fired outside the aircraft with no one hurt.
CanJet, the charter airline that owns the plane, said 182 people were on board, including 174 passengers. 150 passengers on the Canada-bound charter plane were released shortly, but two of the passengers were held for several hours and later released as well.
The gunman made a request to be flown to Cuba, Jamaica's Information Minister Daryl Vaz reported.
