Bulgaria: Bulgaria's Cash-Strapped Interior Ministry Faces Bankruptcy – Report

Bulgaria's Interior Ministry is in dire financial straits, finding it hard to cover expenses for basic needs, Darik radio reported, citing insiders.

The ministry has reportedly run out of money even for paying its monthly bills, as it drains up all its financial resources for salaries.

Just days earlier more than 5,000 police officers rallied in downtown Sofia to demand a pay increase and better equipment to fight crime. The union for Bulgaria's 63,000-strong police force has demanded a 50% wage increase. The government has agreed to a maximum of 5%.
