In the aftermath of the devastating February wildfires, new ones are quickly approaching the Australian city of Melbourne, the Russian information agency ITAR-TASS reported Tuesday.
In the last few hours, the city's rescue teams have received about 150 emergency phone calls for help. Remnants of the old fires are still raging in some of Melbourne's adjacent areas.
The new fires are going to reach the city very quickly due to winds with speeds of over 100 km/h in the area. There are reports of many fallen trees and broken lines. Local authorities advise people to stay inside and have made the decision to dismiss workers earlier.
An emergency situation has been declared in the Australian State Victoria, where Melbourne is located.
The previous fires near the city and in the State took a toll of nearly 200 victims.
