A Turkish Airlines aircraft crashed at Amsterdam's Schiphol airport about 10:40 AM local time Wednesday, while attempting to land, CNN reported, citing Dutch airport officials.

CNN also reported nine fatalities, and 50 injured, 25 of them critically.

Witnesses report seeing people walking out of the plain uninjured on their own.

Airline officials said the plane was carrying 126 passengers and 7 crew members on board.

The Boeing 737-800, which was traveling from Istanbul, Turkey, was attempting to land at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol when it went down. Pictures from the scene show the plane broken into three parts.

Kieran Daly, of Air Transport Intelligence, told CNN that the pictures indicated lack of widespread fire, which, despite the severe impact, gave hopes that the crash was survivable. Daly said that modern planes don't easily catch on fire, due to the significant improvements in materials used to build them.

Daly further informed the airplane was made in 2003, and its last technical inspection was in 2008. He added that the airline had a good safety record, was successful, modern and well thought of in the industry.
