Construction of New Passenger Terminal Launched at Bulgaria's Plovdiv Airport

The construction of a new passenger terminal at the Bulgaria second biggest city Plovdiv's Airport began Monday, a press release informed.
The Bulgarian Prime Minister, Sergey Stanishev, and Bulgaria's Minister of Transport, Petar Mutafchiev, were special guests of the opening ceremony.
"I am convinced that the Plovdiv Airport will become one of the modern airports in Bulgaria, despite the close deadlines", Mutafchiev commented.
He also reminded that was the second modernization project at Plovdiv Airport, after the expansion of the main terminal.
The new Plovdiv Airport terminal will cost BGN 40 M, and is going to be build 250 m away from the current one, on an area of 6 759 square meters. The terminal will boost a modern system for passenger services, valued at BGN 3,6 M. Another BGN 19 M are going to be invested in the infrastructure.
The Plovdiv Airport was first opened in 1981, and is situated 12 kilometers South-East direction from Plovdiv. It has been a substitute for the Sofia Airport in case of bad weather or other emergencies.
There are no regular flights to the Plovdiv Airport. It operates passenger, cargo and business flights.
In the winter tourist season the Plovdiv Airport operates daily charter flights with passangers, headed to the Bulgarian winter resorts Bansko, Pamporovo, and Borovets.
