A group of 20 young people has been trapped in a mountain cabin near the village of Dyulya, in the Muglizh municipality in Stara Planina, the Bulgarian news agency BGNES reports.

Civil Defense rescue teams from the city of Stara Zagora, with heavy chain machines and other equipment, are in the area trying to reach the cabin.

The group left for the mountain two days ago and there has not been any contact with them or with the cabin's keeper since then.

The rescue operation is impeded by the strong winds and snow drifts, the Civil Defense spokesperson informs.

The Muglizh Mayor said that the cabin did not have electricity, but was stocked with wood, adding he hoped the young people have brought enough food with them.

The rescue operation is continuing.
