11 people have been killed in a collision between a train and a tourist coach in central Slovakia Saturday morning, BBC reports.

The dead toll could rise, since several of the injured are in serious condition.

The accident happened at a crossing near the town of Brezno. The coach, with 36 passengers aboard, was travelling from Banovce-nad-Bebravou to a ski resort.

The train, which was travelling at full speed, derailed in the crash and pushed the bus for tens of meters, officials said.

"All the dead and injured were on the bus. There were only a few passengers on the train and they didn't suffer any serious injuries," a Slovak Railways spokesperson is quoted as saying..

The railway crossing, reportedly, had only light signals with no barriers to stop vehicles from crossing.
