Max- Peter Ratzel, the Director of Europol, the European Union law enforcement organization that handles criminal intelligence, has arrived in Bulgaria's capital, Sofia to discuss cooperation between Bulgarian and EU law enforcement institutions, BGNES news agency reported Wednesday.

Bulgaria's Interior Minister Mihail Mikov will discuss strategies for combating organized crime and terrorism with Ratzel. The aim of the meeting is to help Bulgaria's police services work in close cooperation with their European colleagues to combat human and drug trafficking, bank card fraud, tobacco products smuggling and other criminal activities.

Ratzel is also scheduled to meet Pavlin Dimitrov, Commissioner General of the Interior Ministry, and Deputy PM Meglena Plugchieva.

Ratzel is a German law enforcement officer, and has been the Director of Europol since April 2005.
