The Bulgarian Chief Prosecutor, Boris Velchev, stated Wednesday that no one has been planning to arrest the former Director of the National Revenue Agency (NRA) Maria Mugrina, consequently no one could have warned her, the Darik radio reported.

Velchev's statements came in response to allegations coming for the Opposition that a Deputy Prosecutor, very close to the ruling Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), had warned Murgina about an upcoming arrest. Media publications later claimed that the alleged informant has been the Deputy Chief Prosecutor Kiril Sitnilski.

Chief Prosecutor Velchev pointed out that since the National Agency for State Security (DANS) had not conducted or planned to conduct an action against Murgina, it was impossible for information to leak.

Velchev hinted that rumors about Sitnilski's involvement were attempts to discredit a successful Prosecutor, who is seen as hindrance to many criminals.

"Mr. Sitnilski is the Head of the Supreme Cassation Prosecutor's Office Department that received a positive assessment in the last European Commission report. In the light of f the latest success we had in the fight against organized crime, Sitnilski became someone who obstructs many and different people and their plans," Velchev said.

The Chief Prosecutor reminded that several months ago, the infamous "businessmen" from the town of Dupnitsa, known as the Galev brothers, currently under arrest, had allegedly received a text message warning them about the Police action against them, signed with the initials K.S.

"So, this is not the first and would not be the last case. I expect further provocations," Velchev stated.

The NRA Director Maria Murgina resigned on February 12, after the State Agency for National Security (DANS) stripped her of her right to access classified information and among mounting accusations of huge organized draining of Value Added Tax (VAT) and political cover-up.

In connection to a different case regarding the alleged underworld figure Nikolay Metodiev - Pileto (The Chicken), owner of the Nero bar in Sofia, which was blown up Tuesday night, Velchev announced that he had not received any information or complaints about Pileto being threatened.
