After three years of searching, the Pazardzhik district attorney, Ivan Daskalov, has announced that concrete evidence has been found in the search for the murderers of the Belneyski sisters, BGNES News agency reported Tuesday.
Daskalov stated "it is logical that we are looking for more than one person in connection with the case, due to this latest evidence we are in the process of looking for the suspects" he added that he "expects results soon."
Daskalov confirmed that the suspects are not from a mental institution as previously alleged and that he does not expect them to be mentally ill'.
Sisters Rositsa (18) and Kristina (15) Belneyska went missing in January 2006, after leaving a disco bar in the town of Pazardzhik. The sisters were found dead at the beginning of February near the town of Peshtera.
The initial version was that the girls had been raped and then killed with stones, their faces heavily battered, but forensic experts have claimed that police mistakes destroyed evidence.
The two bodies were exhumed on May 28, 2008. Bulgaria's most renowned forensic coroner, Professor Stoycho Radanov, conducted the examination after the exhumation. He concluded that serious mistakes were made during previous examinations, which caused the investigation to take a wrong path.
