The leaders of the ruling Bulgarian coalition parties failed to reach an agreement about the way to hold Parliamentary elections and elections for Members of the European Parliament, the Darik radio reported, citing their own sources.

Sergey Stanishev of the Bulgarian Socialist Party, (BSP), Simeon Sax-Coburg of the National Movement for Stability and Progress, (NDSV) and Ahmed Dogan of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) held a joint meeting until late Friday night, but could not find common ground about the elections.

NDSV insisted that both elections should be held simultaneously, on the same day, and even make changes in the Constitution, while DPS were firmly against the proposal. BSP failed to declare their definite position regarding the issue, the Darik radio source said.

The three have, however, agreed to meet soon to further discuss the elections and try to reach a solution.

Stanishev, Sax-Coburg and Dogan also discussed the interim report of the European Commission, published Thursday. They have stressed that Bulgaria's priority now would be to follow the recommendations from Brussels, especially adopting the Conflict of Interest Act, and effective Parliamentary control over the State Agency for National Security among others.
