Bulgaria's authorities have recently initiated a crackdown on crime in anticipation of an EU progress report expected in the coming days, the Irish Times wrote in an article Monday.
The article entitled "Bulgaria Arrests Mafia Suspect and Places Curfew on Teenagers in Crime Crackdown" points to the recent detention of the alleged organized crime boss Zlatomir Ivanov, aka Zlatko Baretata as the latest manifestation of the efforts of the Bulgarian authorities to demonstrate progress in problem areas as specified in earlier Brussels reports.
In addition, two other alleged Bulgarian mafia bosses are now awaiting trial, the Irish Times reports apparently meaning the notorious businessmen from the southwest town of Dupnitsa Plamen Galev and Angel Hristov known as the Galevi Brothers.
Another measure that Bulgaria is instituting as part of its campaign to combat crime according to the Irish Times, is the legislation providing for a curfew for teenagers, and significant fines for parents who fail to obey it.
