The Pentagon has announced that they were researching alternative routes in order to be able to continue supplying their military forces in Afghanistan, Bulgarian information agencies reported Saturday, citing a US Defense Ministry spokesperson.
The search for new ways to delver the necessary items to the US army was imposed by this week's closure of the last US air base in Kyrgyzstan.
The Pentagon spokesperson said they were not searching for another air base to replace the one in Kyrgyzstan, but rather for a combination of automobile, railroad and airways to supply goods, excluding weapons, via Europe to Afghanistan.
One of the most probable versions is to supply the goods via the Balkans and Russia, and then, through central Asia to Afghanistan. Another possible solution is sending the freight to Azerbaijan and then loading it on ships through the Caspian Sea.
"We will only use already existing trade routes," the Pentagon said.
