George Obama, half brother of US President Barack Obama, has been arrested in Kenya on a charge of possession of marijuana, CNN reports Saturday, citing Kenyan police.

The Police official in charge of the case, further informs that George Obama had resisted arrest and is being held at the Huruma police post in the capital of Nairobi.

Obama is scheduled to appear in court Monday. A CNN correspondent had been able to interview Obama while in jail. He had denied the allegations.

George and Barack Obama share the same father, but barely know each other, though they have met before, CNN says, adding that in his memoir, "Dreams from My Father," Barack Obama, who struggles to reconcile with his father after he left him and his mother when he was just a child, describes meeting George as a "painful affair."

George is Barack Obama Senior's last child and was just 6 months old when the father died in a car accident. Both George and Barack hardly knew the man, who was their father.

George Obama has not even been aware of his famous brother until very close to the US elections and remained out of the spotlight until August 2008, when the Italian Vanity Fair published an article saying George Obama lived in poverty and his house was a shack.

"I was brought up well. I live well even now. The magazines, they have exaggerated everything," was George Obama's outraged response to the publication.
