One Buried in Avalanche in Bulgaria's Bansko

Rescuers are currently searching for a young man who was buried under an avalanche that struck Wednesday morning outside the ski area boundary in the Bulgarian ski resort of Bansko.

Two skiers, a man and a woman, were going down a steep slope in the Banderishka Poliana area, when the avalanche struck. The girl managed to stay out of the avalanche's way but her friend was buried under the snow, rescuers said, adding that three more people may have also been hit by the avalanche.

Mountaineers say that the recent snowfalls in the Bulgarian mountains have created avalanche hazardous conditions and advise skiers and snowboarders to keep to the marked ski runs.
