The Bulgarian Parliamentary Energy Commission voted yes on the reactivation of Units 3 and 4 of the Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) "Kozloduy", the Bulgarian information agency BGNES reported Tuesday.

With 10 votes for, two against ,and without any abstaining members, the Commission decided during an emergency meeting to submit their decision for discussions by the Members of the Parliament.

The Commission members were appraised by the Bulgarian Energy Minister Petar Dimitrov on the situation in the country in the aftermath of the gas conflict between Russia and the Ukraine.

Dimitrov explained that if Bulgaria would submit a request with the European Commission (EC) for the reactivation of Units 3 and 4 of the NPP, the EC must make their decision known in a 5-day period. If Brussels agrees on the reactivation, one Unit could function for 5 months and collect BGN 130 in revenues, the Energy Minster explained, adding that the EC could decide to assist Bulgarian in other ways such as financing of projects to seek alternative suppliers or financing of the expansion of the Chiren gas storage facility.

The representatives of the National Movement for Stability and Progress and the of the Democrats for Strong Bulgaria declared that they were against the reactivation of the NPP's Units.

Bulgaria suffered catastrophic losses over the gas crisis in the amount of BGN 170 M until now, Dimitrov informed, appealing to the Commission's members to support the decision for the reactivation of Units 3 and 4.
