Democrat Barack Obama would be officially sworn in on Tuesday as the 44th US president and the first African-American to lead the country.

The inauguration ceremony is going to take place in the nation's capital, Washington DC. Its cost is estimated at USD 150 M, most of the amount coming from private donations. Movie Director Steven Spielberg as well as the CEOs of "Microsoft" and "Google" are said to be among them.

According to the latest polls, 79% of all Americans believe that Obama will have very successful four years in office and would manage to deal with the financial crisis in the next two years.

Obama will take the oath of office on President Abraham Lincoln's inaugural Bible at 12 pm local time. He will be sworn in on the steps of the Capitol building looking across the city towards the White House.

The Inaugural Committee has given away over 240,000 free tickets, but many more are expected to attend - the estimates are anywhere between 1 and 2 million people.

The weather in Washington is forecast to be colder than average, around 0 degrees C. For security reasons people attending the ceremony are prohibited from bringing umbrellas, even in case of rain or snow.

Vice President Dick Cheney is set to attend the inauguration in a wheelchair after pulling a muscle in his back while moving boxes. He was helping to move into his new home outside Washington in McLean, Virginia, when he was injured

Before the taking of the oath, President George W Bush and First Lady Laura will welcome President-elect Barack Obama and Michelle to the White House for coffee.

Obama and Vice-President-elect Joe Biden are expected to arrive at the Capitol for the official inaugural ceremony on the West Front Lawn around 11:30 am. George and Laura Bush are also part of the event.

After the ceremony, President Obama will escorts former President George W Bush and former Vice-President Dick Cheney as they leave for the departure ceremony and will attend the inaugural lunch in the Capitol's Statuary Hall.

A little bit after 2 pm, Obama will begin a review of the troops and the inaugural parade then will make its way from the Capitol via Pennsylvania Avenue to the White House. Obama is going to watch the parade from a bullet-proof stand.

The parade will include marching bands, military cadets, high school bands, dance troupes, civic organizations and other performers, selected by the Presidential Inaugural Committee.

At 7:20 pm, Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama are scheduled to leave the White House for the first of 10 official inaugural balls they are to attend in the course of the evening. Beyonce will perform the first dance song.
