The Bulgarian capital Sofia has been hit on Thursday by another big snowstorm with 5 cm of fresh snow covering all streets and boulevards, on top of the slush and ice, left by a weekend storm.
The city public transportation is experiencing significant delays while some of Sofia's major thoroughfares such as "Rakovski" street and boulevard "Opulchenska" are inaccessible for the public transportation vehicles.
The city traffic police reports numerous traffic congestions and fender-benders.
The spokesperson of the "Novera" company, which is charge of the capital's snow removal stated for the Darik radio that the city streets have been cleaned and all available snow plows have been used on the major thoroughfares. He appealed to the residents to not park their cars in ways that could interfere with the snow removal process.
In the mean time many listeners have called the radio station and have reported in internet forums that they have not seen a single snow plow on any of the city streets and that vehicles everywhere cannot travel with more than 30 km/per hour.
The Sofia airport is reporting delays due to the accumulating snow. There are delays for flights arriving from Frankfurt, Budapest, Paris and Milan. The only canceled flight so far is the "Alitalia" flight from Rome. Despite the snow, the passengers' check-in is ongoing, the airport authorities report.
