A group of Bulgarians has been stranded for a second day in Bucharest, due to problems with the UK-based low-cost air carrier "Easy Jet," the Darik radio reported on Sunday.
Kiril Nikolov, one of the 140 passengers on the problematic airplane, spoke to the Darik Radio Sunday afternoon.
The airplane has been scheduled to land in Sofia on Saturday, January 3 at 8:30 pm, but it is still held in Bucharest with the explanation that the Sofia airport has been closed over inclement weather conditions.
Nikolov told the Darik radio that passengers were kept on the plane for over two hours and were informed that the crew was awaiting updates and landing permission from Sofia. Some of the passengers called the Sofia airport from their cell phones and were told that the airport was open for business.
The passengers were later taken to the terminal where they had to wait for another four hours with the explanation that the company was trying to provide hotel accommodations.
"We have been told throughout the day today that buses would arrive in half hour to take us back to the airport, but the buses never arrived. Some of the Bulgarian passengers already left, trying to find other means to get to Bulgaria, others have been picked up by relatives. We have not even seen one "Easy Jet" representative that we could talk to or ask questions. We received information only through the airport authorities," Nikolov further explained.
The Sofia airport press center confirmed before Darik that the airport was operating normally, adding that the solution of the problem with the London flight was only up to "Easy Jet."
The airport spokesperson explained that the biggest delay on Sunday has been in the time frame of three hours for five departing flights.
46 flights have departed from and 35 have arrived in Sofia on Sunday.
