More than 375 persons have been killed in the continuing Israeli air strikes in the Gaza Strip, CNN reported Tuesday citing Palestinian medical sources.
Early Tuesday morning Israel continued bombing Hamas government targets in Gaza shattering the foreign ministry building. This is the fourth day of Israel's air campaign in response to the firing of rockets into its territory by Hamas militants.
Some 40 rockets and shells were fired into Israel on Monday, and more than 150 had been fired since the beginning of Israel's air strikes in Gaza on Saturday, according to Israeli police and defense ministry sources. These attacks have killed six Israelis.
The Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak declared Monday this was "an all-out war against Hamas". Israel has called up 2 000 reservists, and relocation of its tanks along the borders of the Gaza Strip has been reported.
It has hit about 300 Hamas targets in Gaza since the beginning of its air strikes. A ground operation by Israeli forces into Gaza is considered likely.
Israel's air strikes in Gaza began Saturday, just a few days after Hamas declared the end of a six-month ceasefire period. Israel, which occupied the Gaza Strip in 1967, unilaterally withdrew its troops from the enclave in 2005 but has maintained control of its borders.
