Commenting article: Group Within Turkish Military Attempts Coup

Turkish Prime Minister Binali Yildirim informed late on Friday that a group within the Turkish military had attempted a coup.

Yildirim did not provide further details, but was firm that Turkey would not tolerate any such challenges to democracy, Daily Sabah quotes him as saying.

Turkish President Recep Erdogan was reported to be in safety, but Turkey's Chief of Staff is believed to have been taken hostage by a group of soldiers. Several other senior army officials are also reported as being detained.

Well, Well, Well….

There goes a NATO member rogue…

Anyhow this is just a “toddler tantrum” by a nation, which I never considered fit and stable for any membership in the civilized world. Just forget about any dreams on EU membership!

Since those “tantrums” may get ugly and sometimes international, Russia should just avoid any Turkish “toddler” provocations, step back and give the Turkish” infants” at least 48 hours to sober and realize their immense immature stupidity!

ISIS and ISIL and etc. mental disorders are becoming a major nuisance which should become an international priority and dealt with swiftly and mercilessly!

Looks like the coup attempt has failed - a lost chance to drag Turkey into the 21st century - but only if this coup was an attempt to follow the example of Ataturk and not that of G?len.

Gosho - I'm surprised you didn't seek to remind us that Turkey is in Asia, your favourite part of the world..... ;)

Seedy,

sorry to disappoint you but coups these days DON’T WORK unless they have the support from the majority of the population. Coups worked hundreds of years ago…

In the today’s global world (in countries with the population and GDP like Turkey) you can’t just overthrow a government and enforce a new order and regime without the support of the people. Even if the coup was successful the economy of such a country will collapse immediately and all foreign investments, support and businesses will be withdrawn.
Even after this small hiccup of instability in Turkey which didn’t even last 24 hours you will see a shaky Turkish economy for the weeks to come….

On the forward or backward motion opportunities for Turkey in my opinion this coup attempt was done by some extreme Islamism sympathizers of ISIS like Sunni Islamism, New Ottomanism, Turkish Nationalism and etc. trying to drag that confused nation and country back to the dark ages…
