Commenting article: Can Bulgaria Govt Sort Out the Roma Problem?

When Boyko Borisov uttered the following words last week, in support of the Roma community in Bulgaria, they must have listened in disbelief ... "The Roma must break the vicious cycle of having someone else helping them and must exert their efforts". The personal example is really important. The problem is that no one has ever tried to integrate or control the Roma, like they have with their own citizens, just ignored them and now wonder why they are out of control and don't comply with any laws or respect the country they live in. Society is applying medieval conditions on these people and that's an indictment against all Europeans.

If you speak to a Bulgarian (even a professional person) about the Roma problem, their whole attitude changes and they become aggressive and so racist it's astonishing. They can't even utter the words " Roma" but use the derogative term Gypsies. When you ask why do they hate these people who are Bulgarian citizens, they say that they are - dirty, they don't work, live in houses not fit for animals, have lots of children, have no respect for the law, rob everyone, are parasites and suck the life blood out of Bulgaria. If you inquire whether they recognize the Roma as fellow human beings, they repeat their xenophobic prejudice. I do believe that if you told some Bulgarians that a new law had now been passed to exterminate the Roma, they would be very satisfied!

The parasites and leeches are their own people, Bulgarians who have robbed and stole the food out of their mouths, through organized crime and every other way they can. But for some reason these people are idolized and fill all the pages of the tabloids with their opulent life style, made on the backs of their fellow Bulgarians. The Bulgarians are not alone in their hatred of the Roma; all the Eastern European countries that they live in are the same, maybe because they all share similar circumstances in their past.

Well Professor, Major General - Borisov believes it’s up to the Roma and not the government to sort out this matter. And here is another big-hearted Bulgaria minister’s comments-:
The Bulgarian society is not inclined to carry the financial burden of its Roman minority's integration, according to Bulgaria's EU Funds Minister Tomislav Donchev

Journalists and writers who disseminate hatred, discrimination or violence will now face 1 to 4 years behind bars, according to the new amendments to the country's Penal Code.
The Bulgarian journalists and writers who spread racial or ethnic hatred, or hatred based on someone's nationality, will have to pay a fine between BGN 5 000 BGN 10 000.
Every citizen who commits an act of violence based on someone's race, nationality, ethnicity, religion or political views will have to pay a fine ranging from BGN 5 000 to BGN 10 000 and 1 to 4 years in prison under the amended code. Until now, the law covered only racial discrimination.
The types of discrimination listed in the amended law are gender, religious, educational, political, based on sexual orientation, based on marital status, a disability and social status.

This new law that’s been added to the penal code today includes everyone without exception… politicians tread very carefully!!

I have noticed/ reached the conclusion, that Mr Gregory only sends letters to the editor stating his opinions.

Apparently he has fear of the forum where comments to his postings would be a direct affront to his opinions.

What did Forrest Gump Say ?

Ask me not of the Roma, I have seen far too many documentaries, and have far too many personal experiences with them to ever give an unbiased opinion.

Yeah, right? Anyone who disagrees with Hercules is prejudiced. Anyone who agrees with Hercules is a model of tolerance. That's one way to spin it.

Unbiased is not the same thing as uninformed.

Keith Gregory is an aging leftie Eurotrash liberal who is too old to rock-and-roll and too young to die. He has absolutely no credentials and nothing to say. He does have the audacity of arrogance to think he can reshape Bulgaria in the image of Britain. It is not going to happen. He should stop embarrassing himself with his moronic letters to the editor. I am astonished at his stupidity. Gypsy hatred is par for the course in Bulgaria. If he doesn't like it, he should move to Egypt. It is full of gypsies and they camp in the middle of Cairo and no one bothers them.

NELLIE,
You know me well enoughl, I have experienced negative things in my dealings with the Roma in BG, RO, GY, and FR, with one exception, a man in Haskovo who went to the same school as my wife, and actually stayed in school. There are exceptions to the norm, however they are few and far between.

He has his own security firm which watches over the paid parking places in Haskovo, as we say in the USA, the boy done good.

HERCULES,
Prejudice is ones feelings towards someone or something without any personal experience. I have more than enough personal experience with the Roma to make an informed, non-prejudicial statement.

Nellie,

It's nice to see that you have crawled out of you hole and given your normal distorted view of things. At least you have moderated your racist language since the new laws and who knows one day you might also be integrated into society !!!!

There you are, you have given an interesting insight into how one Roma has got on with his life and is now fully integrated..... I knew we would get there in the end !!

Thank you

Nellie,

As I love to prove you wrong when you make wild and unsubstantiated remarks about must things, especially statistics and factual evidence... here are some facts about your favourite writer and how many people read some of his letters. He is getting the highest ratings on here with some of them.
