Commenting article: Dutch Coach: We're On World Cup Mission

The coach of the Dutch football team, who set up an all-European final against Spain or Germany on Sunday after seeing off Uruguay, has said they have come with a mission to South Africa and there are not there yet.

"Our first final since 1974 and 1978 - that came up in my mind in the second half. "It's so very special and, as a small country, we can be so very proud. We have a mission and we have almost succeeded but we are not there yet,” Bert van Marwijk said following the close victory on Tuesday night.

Holland looked comfortable at 3-1 up, though Uruguay made them sweat by pulling back a goal in the second minute of stoppage time.

I think it will be case of 3rd time lucky for the Dutch ..In my opinion they are destined to meet the Germans in the World cup final..It will be tightly fought game with Holland emerging as the victors by a 1 goal advantage. MJC

So you believe the octopus? :-))

I'm forced by both heritage and residence to favor Germany, but from my viewpoint, the gamble the German coach took in using motivated and talented youngsters instead of a rack of oldies has paid off so far, and, barring injury, shows no sign of abating.

Either way, tonight's match is going to be decisive.

Are we talking about that same Holland who couldn't get Uruguay beaten by more than one goal and who allowed Uruguay to score two goals?!? Netherlands are disorganized, sloppy, they make mistakes. My money is on Germany, all the way!

"My money is on Germany, all the way!"

Wouldn't it be embarassing to lose to an octopus?

This is one of the funniest fish stories in years!

If Spain beats Germany today, my crystal ball is full of cobwebs and foggy vapors. It needs to be flushed out. lol

Did I miss something? I thought that crystal ball had been sent out for repairs a match or two ago!

My crystal ball is not out for repairs yet, because I can't find a crystal ball mechanic. I might have to go to Hogwarts to find one. lol

Be careful, don't invoke her name in vain.

My crystal ball is dazed and confused. It is telling me Germany all the way. It is my crystal ball against the octopus.

I deliberately didn't name her. I don't need a lecture on the laws of libel.l

The Netherlands have allowed 5 goals and scored 12 goals. Germany has allowed 2 goals and scored 13 goals. I rest my case. We are in agreement.

Spain, like Germany, has only allowed 2 goals in this tournament. Unlike Germany who has scored 13 goals, Spain has only scored 6 goals. Again, I rest my case.

Nice statistics, but also include this:

Germany in the qualifications for this World Cup: 2 draws, the rest were victories
The Netherlands in the qualifications for this World Cup: Only victories

Germany played so far 5 games on the World Cup: four victories, one loss
Holland played 6 games on the World Cup: all victories.

Germany is a little too enthousiastic and are already thinking about playing against Holland on sunday......but they'll first have to beat the Spanish and that is going to be a lot harder than a game against Argentina or Australia. Argentina was nothing this year as the football genius (Messi) was not in his best shape.

Remarkable by the way.....about all the star players did not make it and were/are way out of normal shape: Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, van Persie, Rooney, Torres, Eto'o, Drogba......among others.
Forl?n was a positive exception to this....however as of yesterday the highest possible for him this edition is 3rd place.
