"He thinks that maybe they should send their reporters to Bulgaria again in order to cover the country objectively"
Good idea - Im a volunteer to guide the journalists to some very typical BG places but Im not sure the BG image would become much better.
All I have to say is that Bulgaria is trying to adjust and make changes. Their neighboring countries should work to build them up, not tear them down. I'm ashamed of the news coverage by the British and CNN. I work in a news office in America and know that there are some power-happy journalists out there. They are not to be respected. I visited Bulgaria this past summer and although there are some trouble spots, there are certainly more beautiful places than not. And I stayed with a family in an old communist block house. It was kept very nicely, it was warm, the people were hospitable and to be quite frank, there are many more less desirable places in Britain and even America.
Bulgaria has a tough road ahead and is struggling to learn the best way without much sincere support.
This is the Bulgaria I know and love:
Why the British audience?!
I lived twice in England and as far as I know they are NOT watching CNN !
It is broadcasted from London but the British either prefer BBC or the SKY channel.
WHO KNOWS WHAT NONSENSE THE AMERICANS WERE TALKING ABOUT!
The ITV clips are here:
I have to say that it's completely normal for British TV to produce a completely misleading story. TV reporters here generally have an IQ of about 90. If they were any more intelligent, they might begin to question the 'Western' spin given to news stories fed to them by our government. In this case, a bit of Russia bashing :-).
Perhaps bTV should come over to the UK and make a story about our gypsies being forced to live near rubbish dumps, scavenging for scrap there, dealing in drugs and various other criminal activities :-).
Stumbler, thanks for the link. I am a PBS fan, but had not been able to see this show in its entirety.
I am personally in love with Bulgaria and her people almost as much as I am with my native Texans...the only sad part is that I don't get to spend as much time there as I would like.
Blow off the fools who believe the negative press of CNN...there are far more here who will remember what I tell them than there are who ever saw that sad piece of sensationalism.
Bulgaria...Texans love you.
Well done Sergey Stanishev.
While many people do have a substantial understanding of what is going on in the world around them and thus take the output of the "journalism for mass consumption" issued by the western mass opinion forming agencies with the requisite dose of salt these news "stories" are reaching more and more people throughout the world who have not the background knowledge to take a critical view of them.
This surely is dangerous and all interventions that point out that distortions and even lies are sometimes portrayed as factual news is to be welcomed.
I do not suppose these people will suddenly change their ways as a result of this intervention but the important thing is not to leave these unchallenged.
"I've just watched the ITV clip and cannot see what the problem with it is"
Look at the clip again and pay special attention to the meter showing only zero's. That part of the clip is for a fact not original footage....the zero's have been added/manipulated in later (in a very bad and obvious way). Having this in mind the whole credibility of this piece of "journalism" goes down the drain.....
Are you talking about guide in your house and your family??? Speak for yourself midget!!! Because there are people who actually have face and can present a better picture....Not that i support this commie Stanishev, but he has a point when not happy with CNN image of Gypsies in shanty towns...Go to India and see if the same Gypsies live better.....
The problem for me is that this building apparently never had any heat to begin with. How can anyone build a building of this size with no provisions for heat other than wood or coal burning stoves? That's ridiculous! Kill the architect and the builder!
Another thing that is problematic is that the photo of the building shows a satellite disk in every single window. So, the gypsies have no heat, but every one of them has satellite TV? How does this make sense?
Something about this story makes no sense and both sides of the story are incorrect. Someone should go there and check it out and give us the facts.
