Commenting article: Unions to Help Bulgarians Find Work Abroad

Bulgaria's KNSB labour union will start compiling a database on local workers willing to find a job abroad and help them realize their dream.

Newly-founded company Human Power will gather people from those lists and find them work spots abroad. The company will also pay the workers' salaries, Darik News reported after Human Power and KNSB signed a cooperation agreement.

What kind of scam is this? This is not possible! If Bulgarians want to work in other EU countries:

1. There are only a limited number of countries where they can work legally, and only when proven that no one else can do the job.
2. premiums have to paid in the respective countries! Not just in Bulgaria.

So, can please somebody explain how this organisation makes money?

I think a lot of Bulgarian will be disappointed with this dream-scam.

The idea seems inspired by the governmental program initiated during the communists regime when Bulgarian medical doctors, engineers, even educators (teaching engineering) as well as sports trainers and performers (opera singers, instrumentalists) went to work in Libya, Morocco, Tunisia, Ethiopia on contracts in various western countries. It was a lucrative idea that brought a lot of foreign currency into the government coffers. It was not very good for the specialists (modern vassalage) but considering the situation in BG (restricted movement outside the country, very low standard of living, etc) was very attractive. However it was not easy to qualify; one needed the right connections etc.
I do not think that in the present conditions in BG program like that will be attractive to specialists. On the other hand the idea of Employment Agency is ok, however those agencies charge an up front fee and this is the end of their involvement with the employment of the specialist. No lawyers, no middle men.

In my view—bad idea.

Hi DP

I agree-this is definitively not a good idea. There are a lot of "headhunting" companies in most European countries with experience in hiring medical professionals or other experts. Medical doctors, professionals and nurses are especially needed in the northern countries- Denmark, Norway(not EU member),Sweden, Finland etc. and they are well paid-directly from the local employer-exactly as it should be. Being paid by a Bulgarian company for qualified work abroad is definitively a ghost from the communist period and not a good idea. The basic principle of EU is free movement of labour and capital, and it is due time for Bulgaria to leave the past.

Hi Ivan !

Excellent ! That is exactly the point. The union or Human power will charge the foreign employer 3-4 times the payment to the bulgarian worker. The motivation is obvious Haven't we seen this before? Same content but different colour, and there is always a kind of scam behind it.
