I somehow doubt the EU will give its top foreign affairs post to a man who is so close to the Russians

Being a member of the EU and the currency board has nothing to do with the safety of the banks. Bulgaria isn't in the eurozone and despite having a currency in effect pegged to the euro it is none of the business of the ECB what happens here. What it does have are the strongest capital controls on banks in Europe, which should be sufficient in stopping these runs - assuming of course that the BNB has been doing it's job. However, given how corrupt the political elite is in the country generally, I have very little faith that this is the case.

No doubt the Minister also squeezed in a long weekend in the holiday island of Bali... Surely there must be some country closer than Indonesia and with a more common set of problems that could help us.

That will teach you to try and arrest well connected political figures for corruption. What, you thought catching an ex minister on tape accepting a bribe was sufficient evidence? You silly, silly man.

These companies all hold extensive property assets that could be sold - if they haven't been nicked by successive Ministers of Defence

Just think how many speeding fines that red number plate has saved over the last ten years...
