Commenting article: EP to Debate Rule of Law in Bulgaria on Feb 6

The leadership of the European Parliament has approved and included in its agenda a plenary debate on freedom and rule of law in Bulgaria.

The debate will take place on February 6, the Bulgarian news agency BTA reported Thursday, citing insider sources in the EP.

Thursday was the deadline to approve or reject the request of the Group of the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe, ALDE, and its Chair, Guy Verhofstadt.

Eh, Peter.....

"Those evening Bells, Those evening Bells!
How many a tale their music tells,
Of youth, and home, and that sweet time,
When last I heard their soothing chime."
(Thomas Moore, from "National Airs", 1815)

The same in Russian (in Ivan Kozlov' translation):

I mean: what if to stop the general IDIOCY?

Sa-Sha, no argument with what you say but this article is about the EP (European parliament so US doesn't come into the equation) discussing law and order in Bulgaria (so not discussing about the UK so their reaction to comment/critique/criticism does not come into the equation although your comment is, no doubt, correct). So, my comments are aimed at the subject of the article and not in general).

Peter, Peter......Look at Your own:
(1)"If Borisov has any sense he will sit and listen to this debate, it will show him how law & order in Bulgaria is viewed by the rest of the EU"---(btw, Peter, would Brit officials "sit and listen" if it was about UK?)
---and BG will be at this show, sure, where it won't be "sitting" but merely "suspended":
(my good friend Kolya' painting ;-)) .............................

(2)"Very often others see in us what we fail to recognise for ourselves"-----exactly!!! The only problem: BG officials may/will accept what the"others" see/recommend while some others (USA and, say-once again,sorry-UK leaders) will never. And just IT is the problem, problem for The Mankind-[minus] USA&Co.

he may take something on board but you have to change the whole mentality of the people in the system i know you have to start at the top but i am not very optimistic about things changing anytime soon i just think bulgaria is not serious about its commitment to europian union and are playing the game

If Borisov has any sense he will sit and listen to this debate, it will show him how law & order in Bulgaria is viewed by the rest of the EU. That is not to say their views will be correct but it will tell him what others think. He can then digest that, take out the inaccuracies (and there will be some) and he then knows what he is up against with the rest. He will also know what work he has to do and in what areas to allay the fears of others. Very often others see in us what we fail to recognise for ourselves, it is the brave and courageous that take these points on board and work to make them better, wonder if Boyco is as big as that??
