Commenting article: Bulgaria Closes Workers Camp in Israel over Poor Conditions

Bulgarian construction workers will be no longer accommodated in temporary camps in Israel and in poor living conditions.

The statement was made Saturday by the CEO of the Bulgarian Employment Agency, Kameliya Lozanova, addressing reports that Bulgarian workers, sent to Israel under and inter-government agreement, live in deplorable conditions.

A quota of 3 500 workers was negotiated at the beginning of 2012 over the mass construction of residential buildings in Israel and the reputed skills of Bulgarians. Under the agreement, the latter have the right to stay in Israel for no longer than one year and must be paid at least USD 1 500 a month.

It seems as is there is no difference in the way Israelis treat Bulgarian construction workers, and the way Saudis, Emiratis and Qataris treat their Indian and Pakistani workers. For shame.
