Photo Story: Tour Off the Beaten Track

Photos by Yuliana Nikolova Text by Ivelina Puhaleva Bulgarian mountains are part of the exuberant nature treasure our country possesses. Formed and moulded over the centuries, they have witnessed some of the Earth's key climatic changes. There were once glaciers here - Rila's Seven Lakes remind of them; lions used to live in these lands; and people have been living here to narrate stories and legends about historic and natural monuments. Going to the north-west and central parts of Bulgaria, the Balkans chain offer glamorous scenery and numerous sightseeing locations. The area, including lower parts of the mountain offer wonderful opportunities for cultural and rural tourism, mountaineering, and scientific tours. By clicking on the pictures below, you can see photo glimpses from Belogradchik, to the north-west, and Ribarica, in central Bulgaria.
