Photo Story: The Surrealistic Atmosphere of the Burning Man Festival in Nevada

Over 70,000 people have gathered at the annual Burning Man festival in the Nevada desert. The annual gathering of artists and musicians is held for 31 years in a row.

The festival was founded on June 21, 1986, initially at Baker Beach in San Francisco. It was initially on a much smaller scale - founder Larry Harvey and his friends were selling their art.

The festival has been held ever since on the last Sunday of August through the first Monday of September.

The name "Burning Man" comes from the tradition every year on the last night of the festival to burn a huge wooden figure of a person who is in the center of the festival city. Then everyone gathers there to celebrate the reincarnation of the human spirit and body.
