Photo Story: Skopje Floods Leave 22 Dead, Thousands Affected

At least twenty-two people have lost their lives as a result of the deadly floods caused by torrential rains in the area of Macedonia's capital Skopje.

Cleanup operations have been ongoing for days, with thousands of families being affected by the disaster.

The response to the floods, as well as the blame of authorities, have been subject to controversy. While officials say the disaster that hit Skopje was a rare phenomenon, some experts have explained with the conditions of the sewage system and other "human-made" factors.
