Photo Story: France, UK Struggle to Cope with Migrant Crisis at Channel Tunnel

Hundreds of extra police and security guards have been deployed to block access to roads and train tracks leading to the Channel Tunnel near Calais in France in recent days after groups of up to 2,000 migrants tried to storm the railway terminus to make it in to Britain.

Sniffer dogs have been sent to help tackle the crisis and new fences erected as French police are trying hard to stop the hundreds of migrants trying to reach the UK through the tunnel every night since June. People traffickers are said to have more than doubled the sum they are paying rogue truck drivers to have migrants hidden on their vehicles.

Figurse suggest that some 70% of migrants in Calais succeed in entering the UK. Britain and France have vowed to tighten security around Calais following the ninth death of a migrant trying to make the crossing over the past five weeks.
