Photo Story: Serbia Faced with Tide of Migrants Heading for EU via Hungary

Migrants from the Middle East, Asia and Africa are crossing into Serbia from neighbouring Macedonia these days heading for Hungary, which is member of the EU’s borderless Schengen zone. Travelling on the so-called Balkan route, they are trying to reach Hungary, from where they can travel visa-free to EU countries farther north with the aim to settle there. As the EU attempts to cope with a rise in migrant influx into Italy and Greece via the Mediterranean many are choosing the alternative land route through non-EU member Serbia.
