Photo Story: Sweden Searches for Suspected Foreign Submarine off Stockholm

Sweden has intensified its search of what it described as "foreign underwater activity" in the Baltic Sea less than 50 km from Stockholm in an operation reminiscent of the days of the Cold War.

Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet quoted unidentified inside sources as saying the search had begun on October 17 following interception of a radio transmission in Russian on an emergency frequency on the evening of October 16.

Russia's Defence Ministry said over the weekend there was no emergency situation involving Russian Navy surface ships or submarines in the Baltic Sea.
