Some countries could well leave the eurozone, but this does not affect its viability, argued Bulgarian Minister of Finance Simeon Djankov.
"Some countries that with time have shown that they are not worthy to be in might well leave the eurozone, but the eurozone as an economic idea is backed by the EU's political idea, and so it will stay and be stronger," opined Djankov.
"It is very possible that some countries that do not fulfil requirements leave, but the eurozone will stay," stated he.
The Bulgarian Minister of Finance however did not specify which the "some countries" he referred to are.
Djankov further explained that joining the eurozone remains a long-term goal for Bulgaria.
"Bulgaria will be under a currency board until we join the single currency area," said the FinMin.
He added that this follows from the way that the currency board was designed, and that abolishing the board will have more minuses than benefits.
