The tank of team Mongolia in the picture is a Russian one... like most of the vehicles in the competition. Crews from around the world did not bring tanks with them; Russia provided T-72Bs instead.

Some contenders used bridges to have some rest surrounded by calm waters.

The so-called "tank biathlon" discipline was invented by the Russian military in August 2013.

It is analogous to Olympic biathlon, with a single difference: it includes tanks.

The new sport has enjoyed a warm reception from many people, and this year's tournament is yet another evidence.

Between August 4 and 16, scores of tanks from twelve countries are taking part in the first-ever Tank Biathlon World Championship.

A similar competition was also held last year, but it featured only Soviet-Union countries.
