Commenting article: Bulgarian President on Macedonia: We Are No Second Greece!

Bulgaria's is not "a second Greece" with regard to its policy towards the Republic of Macedonia, Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev has declared.

Plevneliev's statement Wednesday comes amidst a continuing anti-Bulgarian media hysteria in Macedonia, after at the end of 2012 Bulgaria's President and Cabinet decided as a EU member state the nation was against the EU scheduling a date for the start of Macedonia's EU accession negotiations because of Skopje's failure to meet some membership criteria.

The anti-Bulgarian media rhetoric in Macedonia has led to comparing Bulgaria to Greece in the sense of referring to Greece's implicit veto on Macedonia's accession to NATO and the EU as the result of the so called Macedonian name dispute under which Greece demands a modification of Macedonia's name because it coincides with the name of Greek province. As a result of this dispute, Macedonia is a member of the UN under the name "Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia".

QUOTE " Since the early Middle Ages, all the way to the first half of the 20th century, Macedonia and its Slavic population were considered part of the Bulgarian nation not just by Bulgaria but also by its neighbors and the international community. This is why from its National Liberation in 1878 till 1944 Bulgaria waged five wars attempting to unite all of the Bulgarian-populated lands in the Balkans, including Macedonia "Even if ,this quote is historically correct, bulgaria still select the wrong side recognising this entity as "macedonians" when it is well know by the scholars that these people were ever the same with bulgarian nation until 19th century when misirkov for the first time suggested the idea of a new nation in separatism from bulgarians for clear political reasons after the oncoming dissolution of ottoman empire

Greece has always been on the correct side of history defending its own liberty and the liberty of others. It's true Greece has ended up with more than most. That's no reason to believe that Greece doesn't deserve what it has because others chose the wrong path.

PETER GIVENS
Quotes 1) "Bulgaria claim Macedonians are Bulgarian, while Greece claims the Macedonians are Greek" This man strongly believes, that he has no slavic( bulgarian) ancestry, but he has a distinct ethnicity "the macedonian"(???) with other words he believes, that he is the descendant of ancient macedonians maybe a relative with Aristotle!!! and therefore, has no link with Bulgarians. and the other slavs, neither with the Greeks that he believes are Africans from mars

l2) " ilegal partition(of macedonia) and occupation since 1913" He believes that his nation was the "legal owner" of Ottoman Macedonia province before Balkans wars in 1913 and ignores that the Turks have never recorded such nation in their census archives , but only multy-ethnic "subjects" such as Bulgarians, Greeks ,muslims(albanians) ,Serbs,Hebrews etc!

3) "Greece claims a lineage to the Ancient Hellens because of the modern Greeks living in the same area as the ancient people,, why shouldn't Macedonia claim same in its own territory?" the Greeks do not live only in the same area with ancient people ,but also are speaking the same language with them! and have the same continuationin in civilization and literacy in all eras, But the so called "mackedonski" have nothing common linguistically with ancient macedonians neither with their civilization at all

"ethnic Macedonians" have highest amount of the Mediterranean gene of all European people! so if this is a strong prove for you, then why you don't speak the same language or some kind of language equivelant or close to ancient macedonian language ? or ,why you cultural heritage has no one element coming from them ?but only your civilization has similarities in all anthropological fields with the other south slavs of the balkan region and specially with Bulgarians?the ancient macedonians were christianized and spoke a greek language in 46-51, but your nation has been christianized 900 years later and got alphabet for the first time, why? You have forgoten your old faith and your language ? this comedy with fyrom's brainwashed slavs must take an end

You also ignores that in antiquity the fyrom's territory was the land of ancient Paionians -Dardanians a and Illyrians and other barbaric tribes , so the funny question is, why are the moderns inhabitants of fyrom "macedonians"? and not Dardanians or Paionians ? ha haha!!!!4)."The fact is, they are Tatars.(the Bulgars)"But this man ignores that the inhabitants of today city of Bitola and the near wide area were called "Dragovites" slavs by the Byzantines and were mixed with proto-Bulgarians led by a bulgar leader named KUBER who invaded the territory in 7th ac century
