Bulgaria is not an accomplice of Greece with respect to blocking Macedonia's EU integration, Bulgarian MEP from the ruling Bulgarian party GERB Andrey Kovatchev stated Monday.
"We have never been an accomplice of Greece, we have not supported Greece for blocking Macedonia['s EU bid]," Kovatchev said at a public discussion at Sofia University entitled "Macedonia and the Western Balkans – European Perspectives and Risks", regarding the decision made by Bulgaria's Cabinet and President in December 2012 against the setting of a date for the start of Macedonia's EU accession.
"The Bulgarian government explained what kind of problems it has with Macedonia – discrimination of Bulgarian citizens and manipulations of history," he added....
'Since the early Middle Ages, all the way to the first half of the 20th century, Macedonia and its Slavic population were considered part of the Bulgarian nation not just by Bulgaria but also by its neighbors and the international community.'
