"Nothing better" can be done as of the moment than the agreement between the EU and Turkey on the migrant crisis reached early on Tuesday, Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov has said.
Brussels and Ankara said they had agreed in principle on the prerequisites to curbing the migrant influx into Europe from Turkey.
The latter country surprisingly set additional conditions in return for its help to stem the flow which made EU leaders extend the Monday summit into the small hours on Tuesday. Eventually a decision was taken that the EU's final position would be announced after a March 17-18 meeting.
On Tuesday morning Borisov wrote on Facebook that the agreement would crack down on "this dirty business" of people smuggling and would put and end to the journeys of migrants across the Aegean Sea from Turkey to Greece.
"As we have discussed, migrants will be accepted only through [border crossing points], with finger prints, medical checks, and identification.
Borisov defended the decision to grant Turkey a visa waiver and to consider opening a new chapter in Turkey's EU accession negotiations.
"There were indeed many disputes as to whether the issuance of visas to Turkish citizens should be sped up, but just as before, our position on this issue was that the visa liberalization with Turkey could be done and this was accepted."
As regards the opening of 5 chapters on the road to Turkey's accession into the EU, a text of compromise was adopted. I think that a very good message is being sent to society and respectively a bad message to traffickers and people smugglers," he added.
The EU stopped short of promising Turkey it would open any new chapters, but said it would prepare to produce a decision soon.
Talks were frozen in the mid-2000s, after Turkey had been an accession candidate for nearly half a century, due to disagreement on key chapters and to a spat over the division of Cyprus.
Yes quite right. And according to 2010 stats, there are about 19 million Mussies in the EU. Add afew more million to date due to their prolific breeding. Then there is the current influx of refugees and economic migrants. And it's just ludicrous and suicidal to add Turkey's 75+ million as EU members as well. We will be swamped in no time. That's what scares me.
There are a lot of muslims in Europe now in powerful local and government positions and directing the way that our legal, banking and educational services operate. And with idots like Merc in charge of major EU countries prepared to ditch their national foods and festivals to appease them it looks like even more of our traditions are set to bite the dust
And another point. If (and I hope never) Turkey is granted EU membership, that means that 75+ million extra Muslims will be part of Europe and will change irreversibly and permanently the true nature of what European is and has been mostly until now. But the most potent and real danger lies in that, IF Turkey become EU members, every Muslim in the world will travel to Turkey to obtain Turkish EU Passports, and gain entry by the back door of Europe, which will inevitably lead to increased and unstoppable terrorism - that's the biggest threat to Europe that we will have ever faced in time immemorial. The are already terrorist networks that roam freely and covertly around Europe, that have gained entry by whatever means; but can you imagine masses of them legally being able to enter with a proper and official Turkish EU passport? Erdogan is an Islamist and an IS supporter, which is why it is imperative to keep him at bay, in check and not part of the EU. He turns a blind eye to terrorism as it is without EU membership, and with membership we can kiss Europe goodbye, because it will become swamped with Muslims of any nature, and quite frankly I think that they will take over. There is every concern to think that the European people will become the next lot of refugees in the future. What a terrifying thought.
How naive of BB. And why should anyone have to compromise with a Turkish despot, who encourages IS and even buys their oil, and he and his family make millions from IS to further their own personal fortunes? Sultan Erdogan is blackmailing the EU and nothing short of that. He doesn\'t care one iota about stemming the flow of refugees or migrants. He uses brute force and violence over his own people and particularly anyone that dares to have an opinion at all. This is all about power and blackmail to finally get what he wants - EU Membership. All he wants is, show me the money (all 6 billion of it), give us EU membership and he gets exactly what he wants. Job done. If not, he will open the floodgates and swamp Europe. In fact he probably will anyway, because how is this agreement going to be monitored and enforced to the satisfaction of the EU? Has Fuh rer Shmerkel even thought that far ahead? Erdogan cannot be trusted in any way, shape or form. And more fool EU if they crumble to his preposterous demands. Six billion euros is alot of money in any language, which could be better utilised in other ways; why gift it to a despot who has no intention of doing the right thing?
