Though 40 hours work a week is a standard, brokers often work more than that. They often work in evenings and weekends when most of his clients are free of official work. Many times these work hours are long and irregular, but they have the freedom to work as per their plan.
With the growing communication and wide spread internet usage, many jobs are done at home only, instead of going to the real estate offices time and again, but still off the desk job is on the higher side as brokers have to take their customers to the sites, arrange clients meet, study market property sale-purchase trends, etc.
Employment Prospects:In 2006, real estate brokers and sales agents combine had 564,000 jobs of which real estate sales agents formed 77 percent of these jobs. Most of them worked part time, and about 61 percent real estate brokers and sales agents were self-employed. Real estate sells everywhere, but is profound in large urban areas and growing communities. Gradually, when the broker gains experience and knowledge, he can increase his number of transactions and thereby increase his income. Many big firms are also interested in such experienced brokers and usually appoint them as Sales Manager or even General Manager. If a broker is an entrepreneur, he can himself start his own firm, can become real estate appraiser, open a training institute for new comers and even become property manager if he has special experience in operating and maintaining rental properties. Yet another option is, if he has intensive knowledge of business conditions and property values in his working area, he can start mortgage financing or real estate investment counseling.
