In order to get Florida real estate licenses, candidates have to attend a real estate school that offers the appropriate courses. While that may sound fairly logical, one might be surprised to find that he/she has to take pre-license courses to become a real estate sales associate or a broker. In addition, there are requirements that must be met before a sales associate can then become a broker.
There are Florida real estate schools in many cities throughout the state. Several chains, some run by major realty companies, offer courses year round. If a person is considering the option of becoming a real estate agent in Florida, it is critical that the school he/she selects is one of those that are approved by the Florida Real Estate Commission (FREC).
In order to be accepted for course study at an approved Florida real estate school, a person must be at least 18 years of age, must have a high school diploma or its equivalent, and must be able to prove that he/she is of good character. One need not, however be a resident of Florida or even a citizen of the United States. He/she must be available to take the required 63-hour pre-licensing course when classes are scheduled.
Some schools may have other requirements, and it's up to the students to ask what those may be. The cost of each of the schools is set by the school and usually depends on the course or courses a person want to take. For a real estate or sales associate\'s license, prices range up to about $400. If a person is licensed in one of the ten other states that have reciprocal agreements with Florida, he/she may not have to take the pre-licensing courses under certain conditions.
Florida real estate schools online offer aspiring sales associates the opportunity to study on their own schedules rather than having to attend live classes that might not be convenient. In general, the online courses are very similar to live courses in content, but the pacing is entirely up to the user. If a person is considering taking his/her courses online, he/she should shop around as prices may vary. In either case, he/she must still be able to pass a state test with a minimum score of 75 correct out of 100 questions, and he/she has 3 1/2 hours to do so.
The major Florida real estate schools advertise on the Internet. Some have more than one location for live classes, and many offer a choice of day, evening, or weekend classes. It is important to be sure to compare prices and to determine whether textbooks are included. The most important issue is to be certain that the course is approved before one takes it.
