The Financial Times published Tuesday a recapitulation of Bulgaria's troubles with EU funds over the failure of its authorities to tackle corruption.
The FT reminds that Bulgaria lost EUR 520 M of EU funding when in November the European Commission decided not to renew the accreditation of two of the country's executive agencies in charge of the absorption of EU money.
The paper points out this was the first time in EU's history the EC had deprived a member state of funds in this way.
The FT also stresses that in October 2008 Bulgaria was ranked the most corrupt state in the EU as it slipped below Romania in the global index of corruption perceptions published by Transparency International.
The article notes the pledges of Bulgarian officials that the measures they had taken to tackle the graft issues were soon to bear fruit.
