Bulgaria hosted Sunday for the first time an initiative, which is part of international enterprise competition for young people from vocational schools, Skills@Work Challenge.

It is part of the global project of the British Council and Junior Achievement developed in nine countries in the South East Europe Region (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Israel, Macedonia, Romania, Serbia and Turkey) and the UK.

The day started with ice breakers and a variety of team-building activities that allowed the 100 contestants, aged between 15 and 18, to get to know each other.

Then they have been divided into 20 teams to work for six hours on a case for finding an innovative way of supplying energy to a house using the known energy sources or some new ones.

The ideas proposed have been evaluated according to their clearness, messages and effectiveness by several expert judges, representatives of Junior Achievement, British Council, Microsoft Bulgaria and the Education Ministry among them.

The competition has been won by Team 1 that generated ideas of waste and rain water usage and explained how a building could be heated for a long time by special insulation technology.

The patron of the event was Bulgaria's Education Minister Daniel Valchev. Among the special guest were the UK Ambassador to Sofia Steve Williams and the British Council Director Tony Buckby.
