Bulgaria's government should not be surprised by the blocking of EU funds as they had been warned before about violations.

This statement was made Friday by the Conservative Member of the European Parliament Geoffrey Van Orden, who used to report on Bulgaria's progress during its EU accession negotiations.

"I was very disappointed to find out that Bulgaria makes little or no progress in areas we have been discussing for years", Van Orden said after a meeting with Sofia Mayor Boyko Borisov.

The British MEP also commented on the possibility for coalition between rightist parties in Bulgaria saying that he had been trying for years to encourage rightist and centrist parties to work together and that party leaders were now also coming to that conclusion.
